Maffra District Hospital nurse, Courtney Savige and her fundraising committee came second in this year’s Maffra Mardi Gras, raising a mammoth total of $23,807.
Sponsored by the auxiliary, Courtney and her team ran a total of 19 events including a movie night, trash and treasure market at the hospital, cake stalls at local markets, a trivia night which was won by Annie Payne’s table, coffee mornings, a catch a carp day and numerous raffles held at different locations. A Ball and Silent Auction raised $10,000 alone.
The funds will be used to help rejuvenate the dining room and living rooms in the McDonald Wing and also the hospital’s front entrance.
Courtney and her committee were overwhelmed by the generosity of the community and businesses along with hospital staff and volunteers who helped throughout the six weeks of the Mardi Gras.
“The community really got behind us and we thank each and every one for their contribution,” Courtney said.
Meanwhile the auxiliary won the Joan Laws Perpetual Trophy for Best Community float, which featured some injured athletes in a tropical setting.
