ASIST = Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training ran a second workshop this week and is planning another in June.
Active April is all about getting moving, becoming involved. So as much as suicide intervention training is not a physical activity, it is certainly an activity to promote life and being able to actively help others.
The first workshop was fully booked and some participants have already said they have used the tools from the workshop to support someone who had suicide concerns. They felt the workshop gave them the confidence to be able to communicate with the person at risk to get them the help needed to continue to promote life.
Last year’s national suicide figures saw an increase in the numbers of suicides. This is not a topic that is going to go away. CGHS is enabling not only staff but community members the opportunity to further develop their skills to help deal with the situation if it was to confront them.
The June workshop is on June 16 and 17.
