Get active in April

All staff are encouraged to join one of the Central Gippsland Health (CGH) teams for Active April.

This is the fourth time that CGH has participated in the Active April initiative which CGH Health Promotion Officer, Gemma Paton, said encouraged all Victorians to do 30 minutes of physical activity a day throughout April.

“Being active is not only great for your productivity but also has benefits of better sleep, reduced stress levels and overall health,” Ms Paton explained. “We are encouraging staff to enjoy being active in ways that suit their personal goals and lifestyle.”

This year, CGH has partnered with First State Super to offer three Fit-Bit hampers as first, second and third prize and two fitness mats to the fourth and fifth placed individuals who have logged the greatest number of active hours during the month. The only catch is prize recipients must be in a team to win these prizes. To encourage team competition, CGH will also award a cafeteria voucher to the team that logs the greatest number of hours.

Another bonus is just by registering, CGH staff go into Active April’s draw to win tickets to the 2020 Australian Open Tennis Finals (first prize), four Fitbits for the family and an iPad mini (second prize), or a GoPro Session Waterproof Action Cam (third prize).

There are eight teams created under the CGH Health and Wellbeing banner. Follow this link to join a team http://www.activeapril.vic.gov.au and click register at the top of the page.

Participants must register their details as an individual before receiving an email asking to verify the account. Participants must then log in and click the Teams tab at the top right-hand side of the screen. ‘Request to join a team’ and enter your team ID (one of the following):

“CGH has partnered with a number of local sport and fitness centres to bring you some great local deals so check your emails for a booklet full of local deals and discounts on offer,” Ms Paton said.

CGH staff will also be offered a range of activities during the month including free fruit and water (excluding public holidays), launch of the walking track, yoga, laughing yoga, walking groups, cooking demonstrations and casminton.

Active April will finish with Frank’s Run on 30 April from 5.30pm at the Port of Sale, followed by a complementary healthy BBQ dinner and refreshments.

For information about how to sign up for these great activities, check your emails or look out for posters displayed around each CGH site.
